Heather Christensen & Daniel

Since a young kid, I knew I wanted to be a Big Sister. I remember calling a hotline number I saw on a billboard. However I was told I was not old enough at the time, I'm not quite sure how old I was at that time. I definitely remember being too young to drive, but I remember being inspired by the sign. Years later I was attending WWU in Bellingham and went to some activity fair where they had booths set up with a representive and information. The booths ranged from campus sports, on campus clubs and BBBS. I remember signing up on a clipboard and not really sure what to expect from that. BBS offered a couple different types of matches. A school based one or a community based one. It wasn't long before I was matched up with a 9yr old girl named Sarah. We had been a match for two years before I moved away from the college town and pursued a career in Seattle.

About Daniel and I:

Fast forward five years... I was reflecting on my experiences and memories as Big Sister and knew it was something I wanted to be part of again. I was living in Edmonds, WA and got matched up through the Everett office. Months went by and I got a phone call stating they had what they thought was the perfect little brother! He lived less than 2 miles from me, and we shared many interests and we both had black labs. A year later, I have to agree that he is the perfect little brother! Although I now live in Auburn we still get together about twice a month. One of Daniel's favorite activities is bowling, and luckily there is a bowling alley near his house. We have also visited Funtasia, and many parks. One of the best memories I have is taking Daniel to Martha Lake in Lynnwood. I had bought this remote controlled boat and thought he would enjoy it. Daniel got so involved with the boat he rolled up his pants, took off his shoes and socks and was wadding in the lake driving the boat. I finally had to convince him that we should leave so we could grab something to eat. It was a big hit!

Daniel had expressed that the next time we hang out he wants to go to the zoo! I am looking forward to this adventure!

I am still in the works with setting up a BBBS Kickball game through Underdog Sports. I will keep you posted on the details, this is going to be a lot of fun!
